The first mall with geothermal energy
Cádiz, will be the first in Spain to be fueled by the heat
of the Earth . The geothermal energy installation will cover more than 90
percent of the energy demand for heating and 28 percent of cooling demand,
which will prevent the emission of 160 tonnes of CO2 per year. The center will
open next April.
This Ikea has an area of 19,500 square meters, and in the
project have invested about 800,000 euros. According to the company responsible
for carrying out the project, CGS explained that "this innovative energy
system is very suitable for large commercial areas [because of the large area
occupied by car parks], but also for all types of projects, whether buildings
of housing as industrialists ".
Geothermal energy is a type of renewable energy based on the
heat accumulated in the earth. This latent heat inside the earth's crust is not
only used to heat the environment, but is used to generate energy that can be
used to light bulbs, electrical appliances, recharge mobile phones or even
refrigerate a building. According to the Spanish Geothermal Union , more than
9,000 MWe of clean electricity is generated worldwide thanks to the heat
present in the subsoil.
The company in charge of carrying out the project is CGS ,
an engineering company in diverse fields: environment, energy, exploration and
water. They have been in charge of carrying out the previous studies and
checking the feasibility of the geothermal installation.
